June 1, 2020 – Residents are asked to nominate great front yard gardens for the 2020 City of St. Catharines Trillium Awards, despite things looking a bit different this year. Nominations close June 19 and can be submitted on EngageSTC.ca/TrilliumAwards.
The Trillium Awards are intended to build community spirit and showcase
St. Catharines neighbourhoods with creative, environmentally-friendly and beautiful landscaping. Residents can nominate their front yard property or other properties that have caught their eye. Entry is free.
“The awards are a great way to recognize residents who have worked hard in their gardens,” said Ilyse Norton, development horticultural technician. “We want to highlight those that are contributing in a positive way to their communities and to the environment as a whole.”
All properties in St. Catharines, including residential and commercial properties, are eligible to participate. Nominations will be evaluated and properties will be viewed in early July. The City will announce and recognize the Trillium Award recipients online later in the year.
Some other changes to this year’s awards include revised category descriptions with emphasis on environmentally sensitive and edible gardens, along with a new online category – Community’s Choice award.
The City will still recognize properties in three other categories, including up to two Civic Beautification awards per ward, recognizing a Green Leader for significant contribution to greening the community, and the Mayor’s award for best overall property.
